AbstractOne new anthraquinone, versiconol B (1), and one new xanthone, oxisterigmatocystin I (2), along with eight known compounds were isolated from liquid cultures of the sponge-derived fungus Aspergillus sp. F40. The gross structures were determined based on the NMR and mass spectroscopic data, and the absolute configurations were determined by comparison of optical rotation data with those earlier reported. Compounds 1-4 were evaluated for their antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923 and Vibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC17802.
